The Further Education Support Service has put together a calendar of events for Autumn 2015 to support those working in the FET environment in DES funded providers. The focus of the events are:

Active Teaching and Learning in FET (for teachers and tutors working in FET)

These hands-on workshops will focus on active teaching and learning approaches that will help to support enjoyable and interactive learning in the classroom. This should help to engage and motivate learners and encourage lateral thinking, group work, critical analysis and reflection. The session will introduce teachers/tutors to a range of different activities that are quick and easy to implement in their classrooms and learning contexts.

The facilitator for these sessions is Miriam O' Donoghue, Deputy Director of the CDETB Curriculum Development Unit and National Manager of the Further Education Support Service (FESS).

The target audience for these workshops is teachers and tutors working in FET.

Learner Well-Being in the FET Environment (for those with a management role in their provider)

This interactive workshop is aimed at developing insight into the challenges facing learners with mental health difficulties and the potential importance of education in mental health recovery. Issues relating to policy will be covered and discussed, including the relevance of equality legislation, disclosure and confidentiality guidelines and admission and interview procedures. A range of possible supports for learners will be presented and some challenging case studies/scenarios will be discussed.

This training will support development of equality policy and procedures, and will be beneficial for work with all learners because good practice in supporting learners with mental health difficulties is good education practice. 

The facilitators for this session are Dr. Marie Rooney, Consultant and Dr. Shay Heneghan, Senior Psychologist, DDLETB Psychological Support Service.

The target audience for this workshop is principals, deputy principals, centre managers, QA officers and co-ordinators.
